Business and Employment
People need access to good jobs. A healthy community must include a variety of employment opportunities. Kelowna has enjoyed a strong economy for the last 14 years.
Kelowna has been acknowleged as being business friendly. We have cut red tape on business licences and make it esy to set up a business in the City. I will continue to encourage the "entrepreneur" culture of the Okanagan. I will encourage and promote the technology sector and the renewal of agricultural business within our City.
The continued expansion of the Kelowna International Airport provides important infrastructure for business expansion. I is Your Link to the World. I will continue to support the YLW growth and self-funded plan for future expansion.
UBCO's ongoing expansion will continue to provide business and academic opportunities. I have worked for years to bring the UBCO campus to downtown Kelowna. With the new plans for a campus on Doyle this vision may soon be realized.
Keep Business taxes at reasonable levels. Kelowna business tax is approximately 2 X the residential tax rate. Kelowna's business tax rate is one of the lowest in BC. (Less than 3X is considered business friendly.) The City has maintained this tax rate for all the years I have served on Council.
